I’m Allison Cole, and I love creating vibrant and playful illustrations. Art-making, storytelling, and observation have always been the tools I use to process the world around me. When I was a kid, I spent hours making my own picture books, leaning into my imagination to create my own stories. That sense of play still drives my creative process today. I believe that lightness and depth can coexist, and that joy is a powerful force for connection and change. I use illustration as a tool for empathy, education, and quiet activism. Themes like neurodiversity, feminism, and inclusivity are values I live by and intentionally center in my work. And of course, cats.
Through my art, I aim to reflect a wide range of lived experiences and create pieces that help others feel seen, inspired, or simply delighted.
My work spans across many markets - picture books, sequential art, surface design, editorial, and brand collaborations. No matter the format, I’m always looking to create images that connect and resonate, whether by entertaining, informing, or offering a moment of recognition. I graduated from the Rhode Island School of Design and currently live in Rhode Island with my husband, son, and cat.
Over the years, I frequently hear from students looking to learn more about my illustration career. I’ve compiled the answers to some frequently asked questions here.
